Louis Vuitton & Wearable Tech: LV Handbags

Louis Vuitton has released a new collection of handbags this month… well, they’re not really just any handbags, they’re handbags with built-in technology. Though wearable tech is not new to fashion, it has been slow to take up with the higher-end, luxury fashion brands. Louis Vuitton’s venture into fashion tech involves their bags having flexible digital touchscreens on them.

The bags were showcased at the Cruise 2020 show at the TWA flight centre at JFK airport in New York, with the screens displaying moving images of cities. Behind the tech bags is Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, with the bags being described by the brand itself as a “cutting-edge fusion of technology and craft.” The flexible screens are mad using OLED technology (with 1920 x 1440 resolution), and the lighting technology enables the very thin screen to not need any backlighting.

Be sure to keep an eye out, and to see what Louis Vuitton does next in the fashion tech space.
